We are happy to announce that we have some fantastic new books available at Asheville Fungi. We wanted to highlight them on the blog because, well...the are really quite incredible! I'm excited about this! So, let's get started...
The author, Langdon Cook, follows the journey of some of America's mushroom hunters. He brings us into the secret world of America's Mushroom Hunters. Langdon documents their adventures as well as exploring the science and lore of edible fungi. This enlightening book examines more than just mushrooms though. You will gain a greater understanding of "human behavior, economics, food, society & nature."
Author David Arora offers up a beginner's checklist of the 70 most distinctive & common mushrooms. You will also be provided chapters on terminology, habitats, & the meanings of mushroom scientific names.
A great book for beginners & experienced mushroom hunters alike.
Radical Mycology is the new "must have" book on fungi! It is without a doubt one of the most comprehensive books on mycology ever published. Chapters include the exploration of fungal biology, fungi's ecological roles, identification, techniques for making fungal medicine, cultivating mushrooms, and even examining what McCoy calls "regenerative natural mushroom farming." McCoy concludes the book by analyzing fungi's effects on human societies, as well as the history of psychoactive mushrooms.
Author Becky Selengut breaks her recipes down into 15 chapters. Each chapter highlights a different wild or cultivated mushroom, including: oyster, maitake, chantrelle, shiitake, lion's mane, and beech. Her recipes are mouth watering delicious too! Even the words trigger my drool reflex...Hanger Steak with Porcini, Blue Cheese Butter, & Truffled Sweet Potato Frites...Maitake Tikka Masala...King Trumpet and Tomato Sandwiches with Spicy Mayo...Hedgehog Mushrooms and Cheddar Grits with Fried eggs and Tabasco Honey.
This newly released book is a field guide that is specific to Eastern North American Boletes. This is a comprehensive guide to "identification, study, & preparation of boletes."
This book replaces the Boletes of North America that we carried previously.
